Cala Bona – Popular resort with British visitors
Driving information update, March 2010.Good news for drivers that would normally take the road through Son Servera. The Baleares government recently announced a €13,000,000 by-pass highway around Son Servera. The new road will start from the roundabout next to the Repsol garage and finish at the Ma 4040 highway from Manacor to Capdeprada. There have also been changes to the dual carriage way (Avda. Magnolia). The bottom section close to the promenade and taxi rank has been changed to a one way system on both sides of the dual carriage. You can only drive towards the beach. There is no parking now on one side as a bicycle path has been added. You can only park on the side where the shops and offices are, beside Peter's Corner shop, your one stop shop for all your favourite English foods. Another benefit for drivers is the opening of the road system from the roundabout next to Cotessa's office on Avda. Magnolia. This road allows easy access to Cala Millor and you can drive right through to the California apartments next to Dos Pins restaurant.
May 13th - May 16th 2010, A new European Tour event takes place at Pula Golf club in Son Servera, Mallorca.. This event is the Iberdrola Open Cala Millor. The course is located on the Ma4040 highway just a few kilometres north of Son Servera. May 2010, work has started on relaying the railway tracks between Manacor and Arta. Workers are clearing the overgrown bush and relaying new tracks. The train will run between Arta and Palma.
Cala Bona has a variety of hotels to choose from. You have a choice of luxury hotels, affordable midrange hotels, or cheap hotels. They are situated both inside the resort as well as on the promenade that overlooks the sea and the marina. A fairly lively family resort, Cala Bona is located on the east coast of Majorca, and adjacent to Cala Millor. The journey from Palma de Mallorca airport is approximately one hour by car, depending on traffic at the time of your arrival. For many years this resort has been a very popular holiday destination amongst British families, and that has not changed. I often see children enjoying themselves at the entertainment area inside the resort. You can rent many different types of bicycles and scooters. Recently a new cycle path has been created for cyclists to enjoy the lovely promenade that blends into Cala Millor (you will know when you reach Cala Millor because this is where the fish pavement tiles begin). A very good selection of bars, restaurants and cafes can be found along this walkway. If you are passing by the Beach Boys bar do call in and hi to Sue and Ian.

I just adore the charming marina. Boat trips are available from the here. There are many delightful, warm and friendly restaurants around the harbour, where my husband and I dine quite often in the summer months. The food is consistently delicious. Can you imagine yourself dining by candlelight in a lovely seaside restaurant with the gentle sound of the waves in the background. There’s nothing more romantic!

Compared to the beach in Cala Millor, the Playa Cala Bona beach is small and it is quite busy in the summer months. I believe that it is popular because it is in such a nice, sheltered, sandy bay.

The promenade runs parallel to the beach with a supermarket on the corner, adjacent to the taxi ramp. You will also see a small section of cafes, restaurants and a few shops that sell souvenirs and T-shirts. If you need something to cool you down, there is a small candy shop along this walkway that sells ice cream. There is a very good British supermarket called Peter’s Corner Shop (close to Matrix Foods) where you can purchase your English foods at reasonable prices. So, if you are booked into a self-catering hotel, you’ve got it made! It is located just a short walk up Avda. Magnolia on the same side as the Pharmacy that faces the taxi ramp. Every year, on the 16th of July the festival of the Virgen del Carmen takes place when you will see decorated fishing boats. Unfortunately, Cala Bona does not have its own market, however, there is a very nice market held in the town of Son Servera every Friday morning. You can take the local blue bus that runs from Son Servera around Los Pinos, Cala Bona and Cala Millor. This is a new service that started in February 2009 Cala Bona is just 3 kilometres away from the 9-hole Son Servera Golf and Pula Golf resort. Also close by is Canyamel and Capdeprera golf courses.
