Calas de Mallorca – A great family-oriented resortAlthough most of the entertainment in Calas de Mallorca is from the hotels, We have seen a reasonable amount of bars, shops and cafes that are in and around the main commercial area. I’ve also noticed that there are some activities and attractions for your family to enjoy in the town as well. Your journey from the Palma de Mallorca airport could take anywhere from 55 minutes to 1 hour. This journey time could be shortened if you decide to take a taxi. You could also drive to this resort, but you would need to know the route. We believe that this is the best route: From the airport take the motorway towards Santanyi (MA19). Turn off at Exit 10 (Manacor) and follow the Manacor sign. This road runs parallel to the airport. Follow this road to MA15 and stay on this highway in the direction of Manacor. At Manacor follow the ring road to the right. From here, the road is well sign posted. Just follow the signs to Calas de Mallorca. This is a longer route but the most direct and it is all highway driving to Manacor. I would describe Cales (Calas) de Mallorca as a family-oriented resort. I would definitely not recommend this resort if you fall into the young singles or groups category. If you are looking for a party atmosphere, you will be disappointed in the type of nightlife here. I suggest Magaluf, Palma Nova or Santa Ponca as your holiday destination. Cala Millor may also be suitable. There are buses that leave this resort every day during the summer as well as a bus to take you to Porto Cristo where you can see the Caves of Drach or enjoy the Sunday market. There is also a road train within the resort that takes you between the beaches. If you are fit you could take a walk along the coastal path to the different beaches. I think that the small sandy coves and beautiful beaches of Cales de Mallorca are the highlight of this resort. The nicest beach in my opinion being Cala Domingos, which is very clean and larger than the other two beaches Cala Antena, Gran and Cala Domingos Petit. Marilyn at Cala Domingos
I should warn you that the beaches are very crowded during summer weekends and the sea can have strong undercurrents. It is best to check the flag warnings on the beaches in Mallorca before venturing out too far in the water. Also, when the red flag is out, keep an eye on your children. There is wonderful market in Felanitx, the closest town to Cales de Mallorca. In fact, I think it is the best market in Majorca and no matter where you stay on the island, I really do recommend a visit to this market.
