Palma de Mallorca – For the Ultimate Urban Experience

Palma de Mallorca , the capital city of Mallorca offers great hotel choices and is a great place for those looking for very special city breaks. Whether you prefer moderate (affordable) hotels or luxury hotels in Palma, you will not have trouble finding them in this very vibrant and lovely city.

If you are looking for that ultimate urban experience, I think that Palma de Mallorca will absolutely amaze you. The architecture is superb in this historical city, and while you are here, I recommend a visit to the magnificent Cathedral. If you like art and culture, you will love Palma’s museums and art galleries.

Cafes and bars line the streets of Palma, so you won’t have to look far to find a place to have lunch or enjoy a café con leche (coffee with milk) or a cerveza (cold beer).

There are quite a few tapas bars too. I think everyone should try these tasty Spanish snack dishes that are perfect for a light lunch. They are very reasonably priced and some Tapas Bars offer Tapas Variada, which is a taster plate of a mixture of tapas.

You can also find Mallorquin restaurants that serve Menu del dia (menu of the day). These meals are excellent value for money, as they usually include wine and a pudding for a very low price. You will probably only want a snack in the evening if you eat one of these meals. There is also a good selection of very fine restaurants in Palma that have very exquisite surroundings.

If you’re a shop-a-holic - “What can I say?” – You’ll be in seventh heaven in Palma de Mallorca.

You will stumble upon outdoor and indoor markets where you can get really good bargains. You will find some very unique and elegant shops that have very stylish clothing. There is also a large indoor shopping mall called Corte Ingles where many fine shops are found as well. So many shops! So little time! You can literally shop until you drop in Palma. I did.

After shopping, that is if you have the energy, you might enjoy a stroll along the promenade and marina where some gorgeous yachts can be seen. There are two beaches on either side of Palma. Can Pere Antoni is a sandy beach and Dic de l’Ouest is a stone beach.

You can have the time of your life in Palma in the evening. The nightlife in Palma City is fantastic. The streets come alive and there are so many bars, discos and nightclubs to dance your night away. In fact, two of the most popular nightclubs in Majorca are in Palma.

On News Year Eve, Palma City holds the most spectacular firework displays. Palma is the place to be on News Year Eve.

Are you a live concert lover?

If so, make it a point to check out what is on at the Placa de Torres (the Bull Ring) when you are in Palma. We were lucky enough to have seen Joe Cocker and Simply Red at this fantastic outdoor venue. The sound was amazing and the atmosphere was simply electrifying at both concerts. If you do attend a concert, I recommend that you take a thick soft cushion because the seating is cement, as most bull rings are. There are no bottles permitted in this venue.

If you have the time and get the urge to visit the country side during your holiday in this beautiful city, there is a train from Palma de Mallorca to the very charming town of Soller and lovely Puerto Soller resort. (See Soller and Puerto Soller Resort Page for a description of this area).
