Santa Ponsa – Majorca’s popular family holiday resort.

May 2010 is when Santa Ponca welcomes the Celtic Supporters Association for their annual convention.

They are expecting 2,500 supporters to this convention to this well known Majorcan resort located in the South West region of the island.

The local merchants are already gearing up for this major event.

During the tourist season we have a souvenirs business that produces badges, key-rings, magnets, coasters and mobile phone charms and our clients in Santa Ponsa have already ask us to produce more souvenirs for this event.

For anyone coming to the convention there are many good hotels in the area. If you are having problems finding accommodation I will add some links to websites where you can book direct.

I strongly advise you,if you have the time to visit some of the island's fabulous attractions. One of the newer attractions is the Palma Aquarium located opposite the airport in Can Pastilla. If you are not hiring a car then there are many day trips organised through the hotels, to many of the islands other attractions.

If you are coming early then why not go and see RDC Mallorca play their last game of the season against Espanyola, at the Ono Stadium located just off the Via Centura highway. You will pass by the stadium on your journey from Palma de Mallorca airport to Santa Ponsa.

Tickets are really cheap and I can assure you that you will not be disappointed. My husband and I have been season ticket holders and have watched many exciting games.

For further information on many of the attractions that I have mentioned above please visit other pages on our website. As we travel around the island everyday during the tourist season we observe the changes that occur especially during the winter months and are continually updating our website to ensure that you always have the latest updated information.

We also have links to local tourist information sites and to government sites that advise with the latest updates.

We will continue to update this site with any relevant information that becomes available.

Many things have changed over the winter due to the poor season last year, there are many businesses that have closed or changed hands and with highway improvements some of the journey times will change, especially the trip to the airport as the Via Cintura is being updated to a three lane highway from the tunnel to the Valldemossa exit. The speed limit has been reduced from 120 kph to 80 kph along this section.

Santa Ponsa has many lovely hotels ranging from luxury, midrange (affordable), to cheap (more affordable) with some built right on the seafront for that perfect sea view. Many hotels here offer the all inclusive (full board) option, so your holiday could be very affordable in this resort.

If you do decide to select an all inclusive holiday in Santa Ponsa holiday resort, I would suggest that you leave the hotel once in awhile and do a little exploring. It’s a resort that has a plenty to offer, including a very pleasant atmosphere, both day and night.

On a good traffic day, Santa Ponsa, situated in Majorca’s southern coast, is only a 40 minute journey from the Palma de Mallorca airport.

I can’t say anything bad about this great family resort.

This resort is one of Majorca’s most popular holiday destinations, especially with the British. There are many luxurious homes in this area and many ex-patriots choose to live here.

We have noticed that many more nationalities have been visiting this attractive resort in recent years. It is not surprising, given that the main beach, Playa Santa Ponsa is safe and beautiful with aqua marine clear waters and golden fine sand.

TALENTED ARTISTS OF MAJORCA

We recently met Mihai from Buzau, Romania on the main stretch of the Santa Ponsa Beach. He is an extremely talented artist of Majorca who was designing this stunning sand fortress on Santa Ponsa Beach when we just happened to walk by. We were so impressed by his work that we asked him if he wouldn’t mind if we took a picture and post it on our web page. He very happily agreed.

When we stopped to study his Castle, we were completely amazed at just how intricate and beautiful his work really is. He actually had teeth in the mouths of the snakes that are slivering on the right hand side of the castle by using small pebbles from the sea shore. He also has a very clever way of building the trees that you see on the left hand side of the castle.

If you are in Santa Ponsa, why not look out for Mihai. Mihai is one of the many clever and talented artists that build wonderful sand sculptures on the beaches of Majorca.

Mihai and all of the talented artists of Majorca would like to thank the very kind tourists for their generous donations and appreciation of their truly artistic abilities.

The younger generation have also been known to frequent Santa Ponça, especially when it comes alive with rock music during the September fiesta.

You will have a very nice holiday here as there are many cafes, restaurants, bars and nightclubs, as well as several shopping areas to satisfy you.

Why not enjoy an evening under the stars at the “Spanish Square” in Costa de la Calma.

Below is a picture of the acts that will be appearing during the 2010 tourist season.

It is about a ten minute walk uphill on the main street, but, I think you will agree that it will be well worth the trek. This square features nightly live entertainment (usually tribute shows) from mid-May to mid-October. The concert itself is ”Free”, and it all starts with a little entertainment for children at 8:30 pm.

There are plenty of bars in this square to relax in, serving up meals and liquid refreshments. You will find a variety of shops in Spanish Square as well. It is a great atmosphere, and an evening that I’m sure the whole family will thoroughly enjoy.

Our good friends Colin, son Ryan and daughter Leila own the famous Pound Stretcher Shop in this square where you can get great deals on souvenirs. It is a large shop and you will be amazed at the variety of items they have. You’re sure to find that special souvenir gift.

If you like fiestas, you’ll love it here.

In June, Santa Ponca celebrates the religious Festival of The Rocio, with lots of singing, dancing and eating.

In September there is a two week festival that commemorates the landing of King Jaime I in Mallorca, featuring a mock Battle between the Moors and Christians. This is when the whole population of Majorca and more seem to come to Santa Ponsa. It’s no wonder, as the atmosphere is very exciting and lively. There is a Rock Concert, as well as a Parade of Giants (these giants will amaze the children). Make sure you don’t miss the firework display on the final Sunday of the festival. Food and drink are available at both fiestas.

Look out for the green parrots that fly around and greet you. They are the natural wild habitants of Santa Ponsa. Their huge nests can be seen in the pine trees in the centre of the resort.

There are many souvenirs shops located around Santa Ponsa. We are lucky to have some of them as our clients and have made very good friends with some of them.

If you are shopping by the bus station why not call in and see what our friend WEI at Grupo Xieli have to offer. They carry a large selection of souvenirs.

The nearest markets are Calvia (Monday in the morning) and Andraxt (Wednesday in the morning).

If you want to play golf, there are several golf courses to choose from namely Santa Ponça Golf Course I, II and III. There is a hotel near to these golf courses that caters to golfers.

The Visitor Information Centre on the promenade is always happy to help you with further information on Santa Ponsa, or you can call them at:
