I think Palmanova has a very good selection of midrange hotels (affordable) and cheap hotels (more affordable) for the holidaymaker to choose from.
There are some hotels close to the beach and some really nice hotels situated behind the resort. The hotels at the back of the resort may be slightly more peaceful as they are away from the beach and promenade, where you’ll find most of the activity in this resort.
Palmanova is situated on the South-west coast of Mallorca. The journey to this resort from the Palma Mallorca Airport is approximately 30 to 35 minutes, depending on the traffic at the time of your arrival.
Palmanova is the resort we used to book for our holidays in Majorca. It has been a popular year-round resort amongst the British for many many years.
I think Palmanova is a lovely, well maintained resort, and the perfect resort for families, and couples, although many singles stay in this resort as well. There is a beautiful flat promenade running the full length of two gorgeous beaches, Platja de Palmanova and Platja des Carregador. This promenade is ideal for people with mobility problems or families with children in push chairs.

If you are a keen sun worshipper, who likes to sun bathe in peace and quiet, I would recommend the quieter beach Platja des Carregador situated further down the promenade.

When we are here on business, we often walk the promenade next to the Platja de Palmanova beach. I like to stop and watch the volleyball players on this beach. Well, secretly, it reminds me of my school days when I used to be on my high school team. Who knows, maybe one day, if I get up enough nerve, I will join in. It looks like so much fun and, I can tell you it is really good exercise, especially on a sand surface.
Walking southward from Palmanova towards Magaluf is another lovely and very popular beach called Son Maties. I would say this beach is shared by Magaluf/Torrenova and Palmanova. This beach is well admired by sports enthusiasts and sun worshippers alike.
You can buy gifts, souvenirs, alcohol and tobacco in the shops on the opposite side of the beach promenade. There is one shop that I really like for bathing suits. “Stop” usually have all the latest fashions in swim suits and they are not too expensive. They also have souvenirs and sports clothing. You’ll get the best prices on tobacco at the tobacconist (ESTANCO) situated between the Castaways Restaurant and Joes Disco Bar.
If you need a taxi, the taxi ramp is on this side of the main road in front of Kompas Supermarket.
There is some night life in this resort, but if it’s the lively nightlife environment that you crave, I suggest you head on over to Magaluf, which is just a walk away. The shortest route would be via the beach. There is a apartment building in Palmanova that is suitable for young singles and groups called Villa Nova, situated above the very friendly Kompas Restaurant. Many young people stay at this hostel as their base, but go to Magaluf on the evening to party. There is no swimming pool, but Villa Nova has received good reviews by the visitors that have stayed here in the past. The beach is just across the street, so you wouldn’t have far to go to have a dip in the sea or to sunbathe.
I recommend this popular resort for people who enjoy a more peaceful, relaxed atmosphere for their holidays in Majorca. Although the ambience of this resort is slightly more tranquil than, let’s say, Magaluf or Santa Ponsa, there are still some bars, cafes, and nice restaurants. We’ve dined in several restaurants here, and found the food to be very good.
I often see families enjoying a day out at the Crazy Golf in Palma Nova. This very large course is situated just behind the main road. It has three 18-hole courses all set in a lovely tropical garden with caves, bridges, and a beautiful waterfall. But, if you want the “real thing”, the nearest golf course is just 7 – 8 kilometres away at Poniente.
I think this resort would well suit someone who likes to play tennis. There is an excellent Tennis Ranch with a nice outdoor café. It is located on the round-a-bout towards the highway (near the bus terminal). After your round of tennis, you could rebuild your energy by having lunch and liquid refreshments.
If you are like me and enjoy exploring different areas when on holiday, there is a bus terminal in this resort, not far from the tennis courts. You can find buses here that run to other south-west resorts as well as the beautiful capital city of Mallorca, Palma.
Unfortunately, because this resort does not have a weekly market, you will have to go to Magaluf on Saturday morning.
My husband and I highly recommend this resort.
